This past Friday night, the 2nd Annual Brave Will Hockey game was held featuring the Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa varsity hockey team, who sponsor the event to raise awareness and funds for the Brave Will Foundation. In a hard-fought contest, the Spartans defeated Guilderland Mohonasen 4 to 3. More importantly, the team did so much more to support the Brave Will Foundation. They efforts of the players, parents, schools, and community paid off as the team was able to raise nearly $900 to support the mission of the Brave Will Foundation.
During the week, the team held a “dump and change” fundraiser in the schools collecting spare change from classmates. At the game, the parents of the players raffled off a number of great packages. In addition, t-shirts and hats commemorating the event were sold. All money raised through these activities were donated directly to the foundation.
The players over the past two years have chosen our foundation as a way of providing community service. The team believes strongly in giving back to the community and look for ways that kids can help other kids who are faced with severe challenges like the children that our foundation supports. We are so impressed by the thoughtfulness and empathy that these boys have shown as they have learned more about our foundation.
Specifically, we would like to thank the players, parents, and coaches and especially Colleen Grabb for organizing the fundraising efforts during the week and at the game. In addition, we would like to thank 2 Brothers Screen Printing for donating the event t-shirts and hats. Lastly, we would like to thank Kirstyn Alonzo for holding her own fundraiser in connection with the game. At her high school in Mechanicville, Kirstyn encouraged her own classmates to attend the game and had special t-shirts made for the event as well (pictured). Kirstyn raised $100 selling t-shirts for the game.
Thank you to all for the never ending support!
